Fairytale "GOLDHEART"
(The fairy tale Gold Heart inspired Lars von Trier to do the trilogy of Breaking the Waves, The Idiots and Dancer in the Dark. Lars von Trier heard this story again and again as a child though his father found it ridiculous. )

Far, far away in the big forest was a little lonely house. In that house lived a little girl. The little girl was so sweet and gentle that people named her "Goldheart".

But Goldheart was so poor and lonely in the world. She had no mother nor a father. The fire in the fireplace was almost out and the only food left was a small cookie.

So Goldheart left the little house and started wandering. With her tiny little cookie in one hand, and a cane in the other, she trotted through the huge forest.

After a while she met an old woman, who was terribly hungry. Goldheart did not hesitate but gave the old woman her cookie. "Have my cookie," she said, "IŽll be all right."

Then, along came a wanderer who was so old and so tired. "Take my cane to lean on, old man," said Goldheart, "cause no matter what, IŽll be all right".

When the night came, Goldheart was tired and lay down on the forest floor to get some sleep. "I feel a little lonely," she said, "but I'll say my evening prayers, and I'll be all right."

The next day Goldheart wandered on and met a poor little girl, whose ears were cold. So Goldheart gave the little girl her hat. "Have my hat," she said, "IŽll be all right."

On a bridge Goldheart met a boy in rags. He was freezing because he had no sweater. So Goldheart took of her sweater and gave it to the boy. "Have my sweater," she said, "IŽll be all right."

Now Goldheart had almost nothing more to give away. She had become very poor. But one night something happened. Stars fell from the sky and sprinkled Goldheart. All of a sudden she saw that the stars turned into money. A bright smile lit up her face. "IŽll be all right," she said.

And one day a beautiful prince appeared and asked Goldheart to marry him. "I am the boy from the bridge to whom you gave your sweater," he said, "Your heart is made of pure gold, therefore you shall be my princess." "Take my heart," said Goldheart, "IŽll be all right".
